In our daily practice as pediatricians, we constantly need to formulate complementary treatments, therapies or studies to our patients that allow us to approach the search and guarantee an optimal state of health. However, there is an element that favors an adequate state of health and, in addition, offers the ability to achieve optimal psychomotor development, but that can often go unnoticed. Play should be a mandatory indication in the pediatric consultation, above all because today we see a high percentage of our patients who enter the consultation with an electronic device in hand, being more and more frequent the lack of physical activity, limitation in the creativity of our children and the isolation of our patients from the social environment.

Therefore it is essential to always establish in consultation with the family the possible play roles to which we can link our patient, since the worst thing is that many of the generations that are parents today have experienced a similar childhood in their past and they fail to identify the importance of this fact, much less find tools to act.

- Patients of lactating age (0-24 months)
They are, for the most part, easy to engage in any kind of game-related activity because they actively participate in whatever action is put into practice. In this group of patients the option to play is always present.

The beginning of the game begins with putting everything in your mouth, exploring practically everything that comes your way, such as using imitations of our actions (talking on the phone or clapping hands imitating the celebration).

Hiding, chasing an object, using auditory stimuli such as music or onomatopoeic sounds are some of the most fun games. In addition, in this age group we see how play should basically be a daily tool to address neurodevelopment, which allows to strengthen in all aspects the bases of gross motor development, as well as the bases of emotional development of all babies.

- Preschool and school age patients (2 years - 10 Years)
At these ages, play is the most fun option to start strengthening fine motor development, which will allow the child to perform basic functions of daily life such as writing, as well as the beginning of thinking and reasoning (cognitive development).

However, as they get older, the game can get a little more complicated. If we have initially linked our patients to outdoor play, it will be much easier to keep them away from video games or computers, which represent the main game option today in children of these ages.

At these ages we must always allow the child to take the first steps to propose a game, analyze it, see their strengths and preferences to locate an appropriate form of entertainment, which allows us to establish a relationship of harmony and, at the same time, create new ones. play options to create them at home.

Some game options will link greater physical activity, which we know should be a fundamental ingredient for any child of these ages. Some game alternatives are, for example, hide-and-seek, playing with a ball, role-playing games (playing the doctors) ... It is important not to leave aside the larger options of team play (soccer, athletics or tennis) and in the little ones, despite the parents being busy, always have options in mind such as reading them a story and sharing meals as a family.

- Patients of adolescent age (11 years and older)
They are the most complex group from any point of view, both for the family and for the doctor or pediatrician who evaluates it in consultation. But it is the group of patients that require more attention and vigilance, due to the multiple changes that develop at a cognitive level at these ages.

So the game offers one of the main therapies of psychological development, and it is that at these ages, being linked to a game will offer the patient a comfortable option of psychological therapy and will allow them to expand their possibilities of seeing their surroundings better.

On many occasions, the game can be proposed from the child to the parent, therefore it is important as parents never to say no to any game proposal. It is necessary, regardless of the age of the patient, to be attentive to the level of activity carried out, the type of activity and the benefits it can bring. Do not leave aside in consultation this very relevant aspect of your child's development and always look for growth opportunities for your child.

Despite routine activities, school, school activities, homework, commitments, among others, always look for a space to take fresh air, escape from technology and the walls of the house to encourage more activities that give the opportunity to express oneself and to grow as whole human beings.
